Summertime events are returning around State College and Centre County. From live and virtual performances, to outdoor movies and community events, we’ve compiled some of this weekend’s highlights.

Friday through Sunday
Central PA Theatre and Dance Fest
The Central PA Theatre and Dance Fest remains virtual for 2021. The Fest showcases the region’s vibrant professional and pre-professional theater, dance and other performing arts groups from 7 p.m. Friday through 7 p.m. Sunday. Viewers will have on-demand streaming access to the festival’s programs through Broadway On Demand and can purchase single tickets for individual shows or a festival pass for all programs for $55. Free live streaming of events will be available on Facebook and YouTube.
State College Spikes vs. West Virginia Black Bears
The Spikes welcome West Virginia to Medlar Field for a three-game series. Friday is a 6:35 p.m. first pitch with a Spikes mini basketball or kickball giveaway for the first 250 fans. Saturday is another 6:35 p.m. start with a fireworks show after the game. Sunday’s 4:05 p.m. game will have a Blair Thomas bobblehead giveaway for the first 250 fans and kids run the bases. Friday
Summer Movie Series
The State Theatre’s Summer Movie Series features “Minari” at 7 p.m. Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, “Minari” follows a Korean-American family that moves to an Arkansas farm in search of their own American Dream. Limited concessions will be available and patrons are encouraged to buy tickets in advance.
Moonstock Summer Concerts
Moonstock, 211 Moon Dance Lane, Port Matilda, welcomes eclectic duo Anchor&Arrow at 7 p.m. for a free outdoor performance as part of its summer concert series
Concert on the Village Green
The annual summer Friday night concert series continues at 7:30 p.m. with harmonica virtuoso Richard Sleigh performing on the Village Green in Lemont.
Saturday
Ten Thousand Villages Fair
From noon to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Ten Thousand Villages plaza, 1341 S. Atherton St., the Village Fair will feature a live musical performance by Anchor&Arrow, food provided by Webster’s Cafe and vendors including Ten Thousand Villages, Tigers Eye Vintage Clothing, Webster’s Bookstore, Acres Artisans, and ClancyAndSkinFood.
State College Pride Ride
State College will celebrate Pride month and the LGBTQA+ community with a car caravan and after-party beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Pride Ride starts at at State College Area High School, travels through part of the borough and concludes at Sidney Friedman Parklet on South Fraser Street. There, an afterparty will feature a performance by Anchor & Arrow and a photobooth/art installation by recent Penn State College of Arts and Architecture student Leo Wang.
Movie in the Park
Disney’s “Frozen 2” is this week’s selection for Movies in the Park, a weekly series held Saturday nights June through August in Bellefonte’s Talleyrand Park and sponsored by The Bellefonte Woman’s Club. Attendees are welcome at 7:30 p.m. and the movie starts at dusk. Admission is free and snacks are available for purchase. Bring blankets, chairs and a flashlight.
Sunday
Centred Outdoors at Shaver’s Creek
Centred Outdoors heads to Shaver’s Creek Environmental Center for guided hikes at 1 and 3 p.m. on Sunday. Advance registration is required. After exploring the front yard of the Environmental Center, guests can explore a nearby trail to look for wildflowers and to listen for the early summer birds of forest and fields. Along the way, participants will learn how the nature center staff monitors nesting birds. Most trails are about 1 mile on forested paths, so come prepared with sturdy footwear and a full water bottle.
Summer Sounds from the Gazebo
A Bellefonte summer tradition, Summer Sounds from the Gazebo in Talleyrand Park returns for free concerts every Sunday through Aug. 8. This week Callanish performs authentic Celtic music at 7 p.m. Blankets or lawn chairs are suggested.
