First Friday returns to downtown State College

STATE COLLEGE — The start of spring marks many new beginnings in Centre County, including the start of First Friday in downtown State College. After a winter hiatus, First Friday will return, providing after-hours access to galleries and shops, free bites and beverages, live music, retail and restaurant specials and more, according to the Facebook event page. The first event of 2024 is Friday, April 5, from 5 to 8 p.m.

“We are so excited to be kicking off the 2024 First Friday season,” shared Joseph “JQ” Quinn, the events and operations specialist for the Downtown State College Improvement District. “First Friday is such a special event because it involves so many different businesses spanning downtown, offering something for everyone, from live music to art to discounts to kid’s activities. It’s the perfect opportunity to meet up with old friends or make new ones as you explore a curated slice of downtown.”

Lion & Cub, Connections, The Family Clothesline, Growing Tree Toys and 3 Dots will participate in sidewalk sales throughout the day on the upcoming First Friday. From 5:30 to 8 p.m., Victor & The Icons will perform on the MLK Plaza.

In the evening, multiple shops in downtown State College will offer discounts, free items, raffles, entertainment and more for visitors to enjoy. The Woskob Family Gallery will host an opening reception with a poetry reading, live music performance and more. Centre LGBT+ will be open for an evening of games, story time and crafts. Appalachian Outdoors will offer beer, wine and light refreshments, plus an in-store raffle. The Makery will offer a free spring flowerpot painting activity. Other businesses participating in First Friday can be found on the Downtown State College Improvement District website.

Participating merchants can validate parking for free parking in Pugh, Fraser and Beaver parking garages.
