A Chinese Dragon Dance, Irish dancers, and international crafts and food will all be part of WPSU-TV and PBS KIDS’ free Multicultural Children’s Festival on Saturday.
The festival will be held 10 a.m.–1 p.m. and 2–4 p.m. at WPSU Studios in Innovation Park. Children attending will receive a PBS KIDS Passport booklet to visit the activity stations and learn about global cultures and people through art, music, crafts, activities and food. Children will also receive a multicultural book to take home as supplies last.
The event is free but registration is encouraged.
Activities at the free event will include musical and dance performances, cultural crafts for kids, displays of traditional clothing, and an international food area. Attendees can stop in the WPSU screening room to watch episodes of internationally themed PBS KIDS programs such as “Let’s Go Luna!” and “Molly of Denali!” There also will be a space for quiet activities.
There will be performances by Chaar Tae Kwon Do Martial Arts of State College, Classical Indian Dance Academy, Indian Classical Carnatic Singing, Roots of Life, and Tir Na Nog Irish Dance, as well as a Chinese Dragon Dance performed by the Chinese Students and Scholars Association.
Activity tables will be run by the Indian Graduate Student Association, the Iranian Student Association, Pan-APIDA Circle, Penn State’s Sustainability Institute, CenClear, and community members from Japan, Nigeria, Bulgaria, Romania and South Korea, among others.
