BELLEFONTE — A pedestrian died after being struck by a pickup truck on Wednesday morning in downtown Bellefonte .
Stephanie Wilson, 36, was hit by a Dodge Ram shortly after 8 a.m. on West High Street at the intersection with Allegheny Street. According to state police at Rockview, Wilson parked her vehicle, exited and began walking south across High Street at the Diamond when the driver of the truck made a right turn from North Allegheny Street onto High Street and struck her in the area of the crosswalk.
The driver, who has not yet been identified, left the scene and was later located, according to a public information report released by state police on Thursday morning. Troopers at the scene on Wednesday morning said the driver was being interviewed at the Rockview barracks.
The investigation is ongoing.
Centre County Coroner Scott Sayers said Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday afternoon.
High Street reopened on Wednesday afternoon after being closed throughout the morning between Spring and Allegheny streets for crash reconstruction.
Pennsylvania State Police at Rockview; Spring Township police; the Centre County Sheriff’s Office; Bellefonte, Mount Nittany and Pleasant Gap Fire Company EMS; and Logan Fire Company responded.
