DESCRIPTION:Music in the Gardens returns to the Arboretum! Join us for a free outdoor concert featuring the Penn State Symphonic Wind Ensemble\, conducted by Tonya Mitchell-Spradlin\, director of Wind Band Studies. \n\nArrive early to enjoy family-friendly activities before the performance. Food trucks will begin serving at 4:00 p.m. while an instrument petting zoo in the Children’s Garden will give children and families the opportunity to explore and interact with a variety of musical instruments. \n\nGuests are welcome to bring chairs and blankets to sit on. All children under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. \n\nThis event is presented by The Penn State School of Music in the College of Arts and Architecture.

Among the myriad myths to be discussed—and corresponding plants to be observed—are stories involving Persephone\, Athena\, Romulus and Remus\, Hecate\, and Prometheus. \n\nRegister for free on The Arboretum’s Programs & Events page. \n\nAbout the Speaker:\nDr. Michael Goyette is an associate teaching professor in the Department of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies (CAMS) at Penn State (University Park). In CAMS\, he teaches a wide range of courses\, including ancient Greek and Latin language at all levels. His research focuses on ancient medicine\, ancient science\, the health humanities\, and the reception of the ancient world in later time periods—including the modern world. He is highly enthusiastic about interdisciplinary inquiry\, and in both his research and teaching he strives to demonstrate how the ancient world can illuminate present-day issues and topics in fields ranging from the humanities to the sciences.
