The Greek, a new ethnic restaurant along Clinton Avenue near North Allen Street, has opened with a soft launch.

Started and owned by John Dimakopoulous, the State College eatery is open for dinner from 5 to 9 p.m. weekdays and from 5 to 10 p.m. on weekends. It features a few appetizers, sandwiches and entrees, all for less than $10 apiece, a representative said.

Dimakopoulos also started the Original Waffle Shop, a landmark in State College on North Atherton Street and on West College Avenue. (Other Waffle Shop operations, on East College Avenue and in Bellefonte, operate under separate ownership.) He emigrated to the U.S. from Greece in 1966.

The Greek, just east of the Clinton Avenue-North Atherton Street intersection, may eventually offer take-out for lunch, StateCollege.com is told. The restaurant is a bring-your-own-alcohol operation.

It’s been open since Sept. 28.
