Ferguson Township Supervisor Resigns

Ferguson Township is looking for a new member of its Board of Supervisors.

Ward 2 Supervisor Hilary Caldwell submitted her resignation to fellow supervisors and Township Manager Centrice Martin on July 8 because she has moved outside of the ward and is no longer eligible to serve. The remaining four supervisors formally accepted her resignation during Tuesday night’s meeting.

“I have learned so much from each and every one of you, and will carry those lessons with me through everything I do in public service,” Caldwell wrote. “I am also truly so lucky to have experienced the compassionate and comprehensive leadership of our newly-hired Township Manager, and a deeply dedicated and knowledgeable staff.”

Caldwell was elected in November 2021 to a two-year interim position as Ward 2 supervisor.

Supervisors have 45 days from the date of vacancy to appoint someone to the open position. If they are unable to do so, the Centre County Court of Common Pleas can be petitioned to fill the vacancy.

Residents who wish to be considered for the appointment can submit an application, letter of interest and resume to Board Chair Laura Dininni, 3147 Research Drive, State College, PA 16801 or ldininni@twp.ferguson.pa.us by 4 p.m. on Aug. 5. To be eligible, applicants must be registered voters living in Ward 2.

The term will expire on Dec. 31, 2023.

When Caldwell was sworn into office in January, she became part of a history-making board — the first all-female governing board in Ferguson Township and in the Centre Region. Caldwell joined fellow newly elected Supervisor Tierra Williams, reelected incumbent Supervisor Lisa Strickland, Ward 3 Supervisor Patricia Stephens and Dininni.

“I am unspeakably grateful for the opportunity to serve alongside some of the most thoughtful and deliberative people with whom I’ve ever worked, and on a historic board of representation,” Caldwell wrote.

“I have no doubt that the Board will appoint a brilliant, thoughtful, and intuitive person to best represent Ward 2, and I promise to be an advocate and resource for the Board as we move forward.”
