HARRISBURG — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that the 2025 Pennsylvania State Rail Plan opened for public comment and review on Sept. 23 until Oct. 24.
A virtual public meeting will be held on Oct. 16 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. to discuss the plan. The plan focuses on “safety, passenger and freight rail, funding, policy, the environment, and economic development,” according to a release, and is updated every four years in collaboration with the Federal Railroad Association, stakeholders and the public.
“With more operating railroads than any other state in the country, rail is a critical part of Pennsylvania’s transportation landscape,” PennDOT Secretary Mike Carroll said in the release. “Through this comment period, Pennsylvanians can share their visions for passenger and freight rail across the commonwealth, and we look forward to their feedback.”
