STATE COLLEGE — The State College High School Field Hockey team traveled to Harrisburg on Sept. 25 and came away with a satisfying 2-0 shutout victory over Mid Penn Commonwealth rival Central Dauphin.
The Lady Lions, however, could not capitalize on the momentum from that win and subsequently fell, 3-0, at Mifflin County on Monday night.
Against CD, Brynn Pezalski scored the first goal of the game in the second period after the two teams battled without a score to open the match.
Then SC’s Reagan Dare extended the Little Lions’ lead to 2-0 with a goal off an assist by Pezalski in the third period.
Taking center stage in the match, however, was the State College defense and goalie Cora Bierly.
The “D” allowed just five shots on goal all night, and Bierly stopped them all as the Lions’ came through with their fourth win of the season.
On the 29th at Mifflin, the Lions could not keep it going and fell to the Lady Huskies, 3-0, in Lewistown.
Mifflin senior Addie Fultz scored all three of her team’s goals, all in the second quarter as the Huskies improved to 5-10 for the season.
State College was not silent in the match, but Mifflin goalie Paige Snyder stopped all the Lions’ threats.
Dare led the Lions with two shots on goal, while Heidi Egerer, Tegan White, Sofie Skillings and Pezalski each had one.
The Lions now have three matches remaining on the schedule against Lower Dauphin, at Mechanicsburg, and at Cumberland Valley.
State College is presently in fifth place in the Mid-Penn Commonwealth Conference with a 3-6 record.
