PHILIPSBURG — The Philipsburg-Osceola boys soccer team has struggled this season, but the Mounties pulled off a 2-1 win over Bald Eagle Area with a last-second Sawyer Sites goal on Oct. 2 at home.
P-O (3-10) also lost to Clearfield, 3-0, on Sept. 30 at home.
Sites scored the first of his two goals in the 14th minute from an assist from Nolan Beish. The Eagles got on the scoreboard on a goal by Jacob Neidrick at the 54th minute from an assist from Connor Maney, tying the game at 1-1.
Sites clinched the win when he scored again with 15 seconds remaining in regulation from an assist from Carter Crain.
“We did not play our best tonight,” BEA coach Jason Bair said, “but give credit to P-O. They did a good job.”
P-O goalkeeper Matt Thompson made five saves, while BEA goalkeeper Henry Bacon made three saves.
Clearfield got goals from Tucker Scott, Rhys Bailey and Haden McCracken against P-O. Clearfield goalkeeper Colby Gusher had two saves in the shutout, while Thompson had nine saves.
BALD EAGLE AREA BOYS
In addition to the Philipsburg-Osceola loss, Bald Eagle Area earned close home wins over Tyrone, 2-1, on Sept. 29 and over Penn Cambria, 4-3, on Oct. 4.
BEA (7-6-1) followed with a 2-1 loss on Oct. 6 at Hollidaysburg.
After a scoreless first half against Tyrone, BEA’s Kayson Tice scored at 62:08 off an assist from Connor Maney. Only 1:15 later, Easton Grimes booted in a goal off an assist from Tice. Tyrone’s Karter Bokulich scored at 70:54, but that was the last goal.
Bacon made 11 saves in the win.
“The last 10 minutes were very intense,” Bair said, “but we played well and did a great job securing the victory. Solid game by our defense and a great team win against a very good team. I’m proud of them.”
Against Penn Cambria, BEA got two goals from Jacob Richardson in the first half, with Tice assisting on the second goal. BEA’s Logan Parsons scored after halftime off an assist from Maney. Maney scored later thanks to an assist from Michael Wesley.
BELLEFONTE BOYS
The Bellefonte boys team breezed to wins over Huntingdon, 5-0, on Sept. 29 at home and at Tyrone, 4-1, on Oct. 1. The Red Raiders then earned a 3-1 victory at Clearfield to improve to 12-1.
Conelle Stabinger scored two goals against Huntingdon, while Keegan Timblin, Gage Rankin and John Servant also scored. Goalkeeper Eli Davis only had to make two saves in the shutout.
Tyrone’s Cameron Nelson scored the first goal at 11:42, but nearly 14 minutes later, Rankin scored off of an assist from Servant.
In the second half, Bellefonte’s Ian Orr scored at 45:08. Stabinger scored again 2:27 later off an Desmond Grindley’s assist. Wesley Cook scored the Red Raiders’ final goal.
PENNS VALLEY BOYS
The Penns Valley boys rolled to a 5-0 win over Central on Oct. 1 at home and a 2-0 victory over Tyrone on Oct. 6 at home.
Luke Ruoff scored the first goal for the Rams at the 16:49 mark. It was the only goal of the first half. The Rams erupted for four goals in the second half, including Ruoff’s second goal. Collin Fohringer, Finnegan Quigley and Cayden Myers followed with goals. Owen Robb earned the shutout in goal.
Leo Martin Villanueva broke a scoreless tie with Tyrone in the 45th minute on senior night. Deon Decker made it 2-0 by scoring less than 2 minutes in the game for the Rams (9-4-2).
STATE COLLEGE BOYS
The State College boys earned a 3-0 shutout over Chambersburg on Sept. 29 at home, but the Little Lions suffered a 4-1 loss at Cumberland Valley on Oct. 1.
State College (9-5-2) followed by earning a 4-3 win over Altoona at Mansion Park.
ST. JOSEPH’S CATHOLIC ACADEMY BOYS
St. Joseph’s Catholic Academy boys team bounced back from a 9-0 loss at Greenwood by winning at Cambria Heights, 3-0, on Oct. 1 and at home over Millersburg, 3-2, on Oct. 3.
But then the WolfPack (5-10) lost to East Juniata, 1-0, on Oct. 6 at home.
Rocco Gigante got the hat trick with three goals against Millersburg. He scored in the 25th minute, with the assist going to Isaiah Crispen. Jeremiah Manno fed Gigante on his second goal in the 28th minute. Gigante scored unassisted on a free kick from 30 yards out in the 36th minute. WolfPack goalkeeper Charlie Ramos made 21 saves.
Against Cambria Heights, Gigante scored his team’s second goal unassisted. Gigante dished out the assist on Chase Luckovich’s goal in the 20th minute. Luckovich got the assist on Crispen’s goal to make the score 3-0. Ramos had 12 saves in the shutout.
BALD EAGLE AREA GIRLS
The Bald Eagle Area girls team went 2-1 in three games, including a 2-0 win over Philipsburg-Osceola on Oct. 2 at home.
The Lady Eagles also beat Penn Cambria, 2-0, on Oct. 4 at home and lost at Tyrone, 3-0, on Sept. 30.
BEA’s Emma Collins scored an unassisted goal at 6:51 against P-O. That 1-0 lead held up until Savanna Albright scored at 67:24, with the assist going to Aiyanna Henninger. BEA goalkeeper Cami Walker made four saves.
BEA held a 10-4 lead in shots on target and a 12-2 edge in corners.
“I thought the girls played really well tonight,” BEA coach Jared Moore said. “It was a total team win. The defense was outstanding and Cami Walker earned her first varsity shutout in goal. Emma Collins was a force tonight. She was up and down the sideline, challenging for balls and scored a great goal to set the tone early for us.”
Walker made 13 saves against Penn Cambria. Albright scored a goal and assisted on Addison Tice’s goal.
Walker had 15 saves in the loss to Tyrone, which outshot BEA 18-13.
BELLEFONTE GIRLS
The Bellefonte girls team picked up wins at Huntingdon, 5-1, on Sept. 30 and at home over Tyrone, 5-2 on Oct. 2 to improve to 8-4.
Bellefonte’s Brooke Whitman got the hat trick against Huntingdon, scoring three goals. Addalyn DeWeese scored a goal and assisted on another goal. Kaylee Knepp also scored. Goalkeeper Ronni Spotts made eight saves.
Five different Lady Red Raiders scored against Tyrone. Reese Patterson had a goal and an assist, as did Knepp and Sydney Miller. Whitman and DeWeese also scored. Spotts made 14 saves. Maya Plummer scored both of Tyrone’s goals.
STATE COLLEGE GIRLS
The State College girls team split its two games, beating Carlisle, 2-1, on Oct. 3 at home and losing to Cumberland Valley, 4-2, on Oct. 1.
State College’s Maya Birkenholtz scored against Carlisle on a corner kick. The game was tied, 1-1, when Carlisle’s Athena Doty scored with 11 minutes left in the game. But within a minute of that goal, Leah Sampsel scored the go-ahead goal.
Sampsel and AG Prinkey scored against Cumberland Valley.
