BOALSBURG — Local author Cathy Horner has announced the release of Growing Up in Boalsburg: Voices of the 1950s — a collection of stories, photographs, and firsthand memories that capture everyday life in Boalsburg during the 1950s.

Based on interviews with longtime residents and extensive historical research, the book explores the people, traditions, businesses, schools, and organizations that shaped the village and helped preserve its unique character for future generations.

“If the effort isn’t taken to write these memories down, they are so often lost to time,” said Horner. Readers will discover stories about schools and teachers, early efforts for preservation, memories as direct quotations from those who lived it, and tributes to important individuals and groups who made an impact on the future of the village.

The book is now available at Breakfast on Boal, the Centre County Historical Society, the Boalsburg Heritage Museum, and Belle Mercantile. Total proceeds from sales of the book, will benefit the Boalsburg Heritage Museum and the Centre County Historical Society.

Horner is a local author and historian who has authored several books about the Boalsburg area and its rich history. She has also served on the Board of Governors of the Centre County Historical Society and is an active member of the Boalsburg Heritage Museum.
