CENTRE COUNTY — The Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Bellefonte, recently announced the recipients of the “Outstanding Senior Awards,” in which four local graduates were recognized.
“An award of $100 given by the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Reverend Patrick McArdle #448, to a senior who is a member of one of the local Catholic churches and who has achieved academic success,” CDA outlined in a statement. “The student must demonstrate good conduct and exemplify the motto of the Catholic Daughters, ‘Unity and Charity.’”
Recent graduates Evelyn St. Amant of Bellefonte Area High School, Elinor Gover of Penns Valley Area High School, Adrienne Hacker of Bald Eagle Area High School and Sachi Ohmoto of Saint Joseph’s Catholic Academy were all recognized for their achievements, receiving the annual award.
Court Reverend Patrick McArdle #448 was instituted on Jan. 18, 1920, with its namesake hailing from a pastor who served for 37 years at Saint John the Evangelist.
The national CDA effort, formed in 1903, is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. Currently, there are an estimated 55,000 dues-paying members across 1,150 courts in 45 states, Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam and the Virgin Islands.
“We provide local spirituality, sharing and activity under the support of a vibrant national organization. Members donate to charities, administer scholarship programs and strive ‘to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness.’” The national CDA organization’s website, shared.
“They embrace the principle of faith working through love in the promotion of justice, equality and the advancement of human rights and human dignity for all.”
