STATE COLLEGE — The world of endurance sports is set to return to Happy Valley in 2026. Organizers announced Monday, Aug.26, that the IRONMAN 70.3 Pennsylvania Happy Valley triathlon has been chosen to host the prestigious IRONMAN 70.3 North American Championship on June 14, 2026.
It’s a massive leap for an event that launched in 2023 and has quickly earned a reputation as one of the sport’s most scenic and community-driven races. With a championship title, elevated professional prize purse and additional qualifying slots for the 2026 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in France, State College will once again find itself on the global stage.
Registration for the race opens this Thursday, Aug. 28, at noon for priority sign-ups, with general registration to follow on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
“We are thrilled to bring the IRONMAN 70.3 North American Championship race to State College and the Happy Valley community to showcase this beautiful venue,” said AJ Sills, IRONMAN’s Northeast regional director. “State College has been a phenomenal host since the event was launched in 2023, and we could not be prouder to see this event host some of the best athletes from around the world next June with this prestigious designation.”
The announcement represents more than just athletic prestige. For Happy Valley, it’s an economic and cultural opportunity and a chance to show off the region’s hospitality and spirit of competition while drawing thousands of athletes, families and fans.

That global stage is no exaggeration. IRONMAN 70.3 races attract elite competitors from across the world, many using the event as a stepping stone to the full IRONMAN or to chase World Championship qualification. In Happy Valley, they’ll tackle a course designed to test grit and endurance against the backdrop of Central Pennsylvania’s natural beauty.
Athletes will begin with a 1.2-mile swim in Foster Joseph Sayers Reservoir at Bald Eagle State Park. From there, the 56-mile bike ride will take them through the rolling hills of Centre and Clinton counties, a route as grueling as it is picturesque. The race will then finish with a 13.1-mile run weaving across Penn State’s campus, capped by a finish line near Beaver Stadium.
For community leaders, the return of IRONMAN in an even bigger way is as much about people as it is about athletics.
