Quilting Open House — Thursday, Aug. 14

There will be a Quilting Open House from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 14, at the State College YMCA.

Cosponsored by the Centre Pieces Quilt Guild and the YMCA, the event will feature quilt displays, live demonstrations and hands-on fun. Guests can try some easy techniques such as Exploding Pineapple, Charms on Point and Jelly Roll Races. Quilt Guild members will also be sharing stories about their quilting journeys.

Friday Concert on the Village Green — Friday, Aug. 15

John Wise Band will perform the Friday Concert on the Village Green from 7:30 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at the Lemont Village Green in Lemont.

Guests are encouraged to bring a blanket or chair for sitting and are welcome to bring a picnic.

Ice cream cones will be served by Scout Troop 367, with a contribution to the troop for projects.

Wiscoy’s Dog Ice Cream Social — Friday, Aug. 15

Wiscoy for Animals is hosting its Dog Ice Cream Social from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 15, at the pet supply store in State College.

Guests are invited to the customer appreciation event for ice cream for dogs, ice cream for humans and an opportunity to donate to the Clearfield County SPCA.

Wiscoy for Animals has been owned and operated by Wanda since 1990. With 35 years in business this December, the event showcases the partnership between town and small businesses.

Harvest Tasting — Friday, Aug. 15

There will be a Harvest Tasting from 10 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 15, at the Arboretum at Penn State in State College.

Guests are invited to come out and explore the flavors of the growing season with a taste of fresh produce grown in the beds of the children’s garden.

Nittany Greyhounds Meet & Greet — Saturday, Aug. 16

Nittany Greyhounds will host a Meet & Greet event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at Pet Supplies Plus in State College.

Community members are invited to come meet retired racing greyhounds and learn about them as pets. Nittany Greyhounds refer to dogs as 45-mile-an-hour couch potatoes that adapt well to living in homes.

Lego Day at Centre Hall Branch Library — Saturday, Aug. 16

The Centre Hall Branch Library will have a Lego Day from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the library in Centre Hall.

Families are invited to stop by the library to build with Legos, and all Legos will be provided.

So Long, Summer Splash and Dive-In Movie — Saturday, Aug. 16

Park Forest Pool is hosting a Lego-themed Dive-In Movie with a screening of “The Lego Movie” just in time before school begins. Doors open at 8 p.m. with the screening starting at 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16, at the Park Forest Community Pool in State College.

There will be swimming, Lego activities, yard games and food and drink.

Admission is $5 per person, and staff will hand out glow sticks and raffle tickets for a Lego prize pack.

South Hills 2025 Summer Concert Series — Sunday, Aug. 17

The South Hills School of Business and Technology is hosting its 36th annual Summer Music Picnic Series, with the La Fiesta Band at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, on the North Lawn of the school in State College.

Music begins at 6 p.m. and guests are asked to bring their picnic dinner, drinks, chairs and blankets to enjoy music on the lawn. Lemonade will be available for a dollar a glass.

Centre County Ballroom Dance — Sunday, Aug. 17

There will be a Centre County Ballroom Dance from 2  to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17 at Lambert Hall in Bellefonte.

Admission to the dance is $10 per person and guests are asked to bring a snack to share.

Print Factory Writing Group — Sunday, Aug. 17

The Print Factory Writing Group will meet at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, at the Print Factory in Bellefonte.

The new writing group is aimed at connecting and supporting local writers. Everyone is welcome to bring a project they’re working on or a book they’d like to read.

Knit Wits — Monday, Aug. 18

Holt Memorial Library will host Knit Wits from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, at the library in Philipsburg.

Guests are invited to knit and crochet with other crafters in the Philipsburg area. There is no set project, so bring whatever you’re working on.

State College Deutsch Club — Monday, Aug. 18

The State College Deutsch Club will meet from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 18, in the Community Room of the Schlow Centre Region Library in State College.

Guests are invited to join the free German conversation group to practice their German in a supportive and relaxed environment.

The group meets twice a month and half of the meetings are dedicated to a themed conversation.

Nittany Baptist Church Children’s Program — Wednesday, Aug. 20

Nittany Baptist Church will have its AWANA program for kids in grades kindergarten through sixth at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at the church in State College.

The program is designed to build a spiritual foundation in children to help them navigate life using the nationally recognized AWANA program. The program will be in building two. For more information, call 814-360-7157.

Live After 5 — Wednesday, Aug. 20

Live After 5 will feature music from A Rock Show from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., in the MLK Plaza downtown State College on Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The weekly summer concert series runs from June through August.

Centre Pieces Quilt Guild Monthly Day Meeting — Wednesday, Aug. 20

The Centre Pieces Quilt Guild will host its Monthly Day Meeting from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20, at Pine Hall Lutheran Church in State College.

The founder of the second-hand craft store Scraps and Skeins, Ellen Campbell, will give a presentation on the techniques of slow stitching. Campbell will display the slow stitching book she has made with some sample materials to show how to put the books together.

Drop-In Guided Tour: The Power of Light — Thursday, Aug. 21

Guests are invited to a drop-in guided tour at the Palmer Museum of Art at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 21, in State College.

The tour will revolve around the theme of the power of light as guests explore collections and exhibitions with a knowledgeable museum guide.
