Dementia Care Seminar — Friday, Nov. 15

There will be a Dementia Care Seminar from 6 to 7 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, at the State College Access Church in State College. “Tips For the Safety, Comfort and Health of a Loved One at Home with Dementia,” will be presented by the owner of M.I.N.D. in Memory Care, Cindy, who consults with families across the country who struggles to care for a loved one with dementia.

Postal History Symposium — Friday, Nov. 15 and Saturday, Nov.16

The Postal History Symposium will be a two-day event starting at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 15, to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the American Philatelic Society at Bellefonte’s Match Factory. The event is hosted by the Smithsonian National Postal Museum and the American Philatelic Society and will include presentations from experts on “The Universal Postal Union: Connecting the World by Mail,” to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Treaty Bern. The event is free and open to the public.

Pork and Sauerkraut Dinner — Saturday, Nov. 16

The Woodycrest United Methodist Church is hosting a pork and sauerkraut dinner at the church from 5 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, in the parking lot of the church in State College. The dinner is take-out only with a cost of $10.

Winter Market at Discovery Space and the Rivet — Saturday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 17

Discovery Space and the Rivet are presenting a Winter Market from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 16, and Sunday, Nov. 17, at the Rivet at the Discovery Space in State College. Guests are invited to get a head start on holiday shopping and support small businesses, makers and artisans. The market this year will feature more than 60 vendors, and all funds raised directly support Discovery Space’s mission of bringing STEM education.

UUFCC Music Series presents the Dixon-Costa Duo — Sunday, Nov. 17

The UUFCC Music Series will be at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17 at State College’s Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Centre County. Robyn Dixon Costa will be on the oboe/English horn and Anthony J. Costa will be on clarinets with pianist Ann Deighton. The program will also feature the world premiere of work from Central Pennsylvania composer, P. Brent Register. The event is free but a $15 donation is suggested.

Rodeo of Resilience — Monday, Nov. 18

The Cancer Survivors’ Association is hosting a country-themed event called the Rodeo of Resilience as a way to unite cancer survivors from the community from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at Pine Hall Lutheran Church in State College. The event looks to offer a fun and relaxing night for survivors and their families with country-themed activities, cowboy hat decorating, line dancing, food, games and more. Penn State’s Recreation, Park and Tourism department is collaborating with the event as part of a senior capstone.

Knit Wits — Monday, Nov. 18

Community members are invited to bring their knitting or crocheting projects from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 18, at the Holt Memorial Library in Philipsburg. All skill levels are welcome to join. There is no set project, so guests are asked to bring what they are currently working on.

Bird Walks with The State College Bird Club — Tuesday, Nov. 19

The State College Bird Club invites participants to start their day observing local birds from 8 to 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at the Millbrook Marsh Nature Center in State College. The bird walks are guided by members of the State College Bird Club and are open to all ages. Guests are asked to dress weather-ready and bring binoculars. The program is free but a donation of $5 per participant is encouraged and supports Millbrook Marsh Nature Center.

Centre Pieces Quilt Guild Day Meeting — Wednesday, Nov. 20

The Centre Pieces Quilt Guild will host its monthly day meeting at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at State College’s Pine Lutheran Church. Members will share their “Quilty, but not Blankety” projects including pincushions, placemats, table runners, wall hanging, postcards, pillows, potholders and other “quilty” items that don’t go on a bed or a lap. AWARE Educational Program — Wednesday, Nov. 20

St. Mark Lutheran Church is partnering with Centre Safe to launch a sexual assault prevention curriculum aimed at educating and supporting senior members of the community, along with caregivers, staff and volunteers. The curriculum called AWARE (Adult Wisdom to Advance Respect and Empowerment) looks to prove consistent prevention programming is effective in combatting violence. The first session will be at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at St. Mark in Howard. The event is free and to register guests can email stmarklutheran@gmail.com.

HVAB Membership Meet Up — Wednesday, Nov. 20

The Happy Valley Adventure Bureau will have a membership meet up from 10 to 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at the American Philatelic Society in Bellefonte’s Match Factory. The event will be a networking opportunity with light refreshments and a tour of the building.

Light Up Night — Thursday, Nov. 21

State College’s Light Up Night will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, along South Allen Street and the MLK Plaza in downtown State College. Organized by the Downtown State College Improvement District, there will be photos with Santa, hot cocoa, crafts, reindeer, arts and crafts vendors and more before the lighting of the tree and light show begin.

Howard UMC Soup Sale and Luncheon — Thursday, Nov. 21

The Howard United Methodist Church is hosting a soup sale and luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. (or until supplies run out) on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the church in Howard. Guests can dine in or take soup to go with options of vegetable beef, ham and bean, chicken and corn or chicken noodle. Quarts to go should be ordered by Sunday, Nov. 17, and can be ordered by calling Patti Long at 814-625-2182. The cost is $8 for a lunch or quart to go, and proceeds benefit local missions in the area.

Pennsylvania Mountain Folktales and Legends: Fact or Fancy? — Thursday, Nov. 21

Local author Jeffrey R. Frazier will host a presentation on Pennsylvania Mountain Folktales and Legends: Fact or Fancy? At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Centre County Library and Historical Museum’s Bellefonte Library. Hosted by the Bellefonte Historical and Cultural Association, the event is free, and refreshments and conversation will follow the presentation.

Ridgelines Language Arts Present Blood Lines — Thursday, Nov. 21

Ridgeline Language Arts is hosting Blood Lines, a night of stories, poems, stand-up comedy, musings and some micro-theatre around reproductive experiences and histories at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at 3 Dots Downtown in State College. There will be several large interactive art installations that invite audience participation. A donation between $10 and $25 is encouraged.
