–Penn State quarterback Ethan Grunkemeyer made his first career start at Iowa on Saturday. He is one of 10 Nittany Lions to make their first career collegiate start this season.
–Kaytron Allen scored two touchdowns against Iowa and ran for a career-high 145 yards on 28 carries. He scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and an 8-yarder in the third quarter. He now has nine touchdowns this season and 33 for his career at PSU.
–Safety Zakee Wheatley recorded 10 tackles (9 solo) in the game and intercepted a pass on Iowa’s first possession. It was his sixth career interception.
–After Xavier Gilliam’s blocked field goal that was returned for a touchdown, Penn State now has four blocked kicks this year—three punts and a field goal.
–Iowa had only 68 yards passing, but the Hawkeyes ran for 245 net yards and three touchdowns with an average of 7.4 yards per carry. Iowa won the yardage battle 313 to 266.
–Iowa had just 11 first downs–8 running, 2 passing and 1 on a penalty.
–Iowa had two 100+ yard runners. Quarterback Mark Gronowski ran 9 times for 130 yards and two touchdowns, and Kamari Moulton ran 17 times for 104 yards. Gronowski also completed 10 passes for 68 yards and was not sacked. PSU had just one tackle-for-loss.
–Trebor Pena led the receivers for Penn State with three catches for 19 yards.
–Penn State will now play the No. 1 team in the country and the No. 2 team in the country on consecutive weeks. No. 1 Ohio State away will be this week followed by No. 2 Indiana at home on November 8.
–Ohio State was idle last week, but Indiana beat UCLA 56-6 at home on Saturday.
