MUNSON — A Rush Township, Centre County man allegedly engaged in an altercation with firefighters who responded to a working structure fire near the community of Munson on Saturday evening, Nov. 15.
According to officials on scene, firefighters were dispatched to the 600 block of Chestnut Street near Munson in Rush Township for the report of a camper fire that was endangering a nearby structure.
The camper was parked close to the residence, and due to heavy fire and gusty winds, the fire spread to the structure, causing smoke, fire and water damage.
When firefighters arrived on scene, a male was attempting to extinguish the fire, and multiple attempts were made to remove the male. After firefights were able to escort the male away from the blaze, the male allegedly engaged in an altercation and was taken to the ground by emergency responders. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries as a result of the incident, but did not require treatment.
The camper was deemed a total loss and the nearby structure, owned by a couple from California, sustained damage. Neither were insured.
A Hollidaysburg-based state police fire marshal and Winburne Vol. Fire Co. are investigating the cause of the fire.
Rockview-based state police are investigating the altercation.
Also assisting on scene were emergency responders from Morris Township Vol. Fire Co., Grassflat Vol. Fire Co., Karthaus Vol. Fire Co., Columbia Vol. Fire Co., Houtzdale-Ramey Vol. Fire Co., Philipsburg Vol. Fire Co., Snow Shoe Vol. Fire Co. and Moshannon Valley EMS.
The American Red Cross was on scene to assist the family.
