BELLEFONTE — The Bellefonte Little League 10U team won its second consecutive game in the Pennsylvania State LL Championship Tournament at Valley East with a convincing 13-3 victory over the Mount Pleasant Little League 10U All Stars.
After taking care of Greater Pittston Township, 8-0, in its first game on Monday, July 21, the 10Us scored 11 runs in the third and fourth innings to take the four-inning, 10-run rule victory.
The win puts Bellefonte’s record in the double-elimination tournament at 2-0 with its next opponent still to be determined. The Tournament is scheduled to take all week to play with the Finals being held on Sunday, July 27.
The 10Us entered the top of the third inning with a 2-1 lead over MPALL and then quickly took control with a five-run rally.
Bellefonte knocked out five hits in the inning–by Rylan Shivery, Thomas Terza, Kobe Urbanik, Jameson Kyle and Tanner Cain–along with two walks and an error to shoot ahead 7-1.
Mount Pleasant stayed competitive with two runs in the bottom of the inning, but Bellefonte was far from done.
The 10Us rallied again, this time getting six more runs on big hits by Terza, Urbanik, Bryson Tressler, Caroline Albright and Crew Cunningham.
The rally put Bellefonte in control at 13-3, and the team then went on to close out the game with a 1-2-3 bottom of the inning.
In the tournament’s first game against Greater Pittston, three Bellefonte pitchers combined to throw a one-hit shutout in an 8-0 victory.
Pitchers Tressler, Oliver St. Amant and Shivery combined to throw four scoreless innings while giving up just one hit. They walked just two and struck out seven as their team got off to a strong start in the Pennsylvania State Tournament.
Bellefonte had nine hits altogether with Urbanik getting two with an RBI and Cunningham getting one and two RBIs.
The win set the team into the winner’s bracket with MPALL on the docket for Tuesday.
Bellefonte’s next opponent will likely be 2-0 Lehigh LL 10U from Bethlehem on Thursday, July 24.
The winner of that game would advance to the Finals against the winner of the lower bracket. The lower bracket team would have to win twice on Sunday to win the championship.
