CENTRE COUNTY — Adult Children of Aging Parents Centre County is offering a free educational program with this month’s topic being “Communicating with Someone Living with Alzheimer’s and Other Dementias.”
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 8, at the Centre Region Active Adult Center in the Nittany Mall in State College.
The program looks to enhance communication between people and their loved ones facing dementia. Discussion topics at the program include changes in language skills associated with Alzheimer’s and other dementias, as well as teaching participants about how to connect through gestures, behaviors and sensory clues to better “enter” their loved one’s world.
Effective communication ensures your loved one’s health, safety and quality of life while fostering the relationship.
Rebecca Kruise, a speech therapist, certified dementia practitioner and owner of Life Speech Services will be leading the program.
ACAP Centre County is a nonprofit organization and a chapter of ACAPcommunity.org. ACAP Centre County offers programs on the second Tuesday of every month in the Centre Region Active Adult Center at the Nittany Mall.
ACAP Centre County noted that while the organization’s programs are focused on the adult children of aging parents. Events are open to everyone.
