Bald Eagle Area has selected someone already familiar with the role to serve as interim superintendent while the school district searches for its next administrative leader.

Joseph Clapper is the district’s interim superintendent effective Friday. Scott Graham, who served as superintendent since 2020, previously announced his retirement, citing health concerns. Graham’s retirement was effective Thursday.

Clapper previously served as BEA’s interim superintendent from March to June 2020. He has been a school superintendent for nearly 15 years at Quaker Valley School District and North Hills School District in Allegheny County.

“I am pleased to be able to rejoin the Bald Eagle Area School District during the search process for the next Superintendent of Schools,” Clapper said in a statement provided by the district. “It is an honor and a privilege to serve in this capacity. I look forward to working collaboratively with the entire school community during the remaining months of the 2021-22 school year.”

According to the agenda for the BEA school board’s March 22 special meeting, Clapper’s appointment is at a rate of $2,000 per week through Dec. 31 or until the date of employment commences for the new superintendent.

“We are very excited to have Dr. Joseph Clapper join our school district as Interim Superintendent,” school board President Tina Greene said in a statement. “Dr. Clapper’s leadership and commitment to our district will afford us the time to conduct the search for Bald Eagle Area’s next superintendent. We look forward to working with Dr. Clapper as we take the time necessary to find the right individual with the energy and enthusiasm towards education to lead our district.”
