Winter Weather Advisory Issued; 2 Centre County School Districts Dismiss Early

Two Centre County school districts are dismissing students early in anticipation of snow and ice moving into the area on Wednesday afternoon.

State College Area and Bald Eagle Area school district will both dismiss an hour early

State College Area will dismiss elementary schools at 2 p.m. and secondary schools at 2:40 p.m. All afters-chool activities and CEEL are cancelled.

Bald Eagle Area will dismiss elementary students at 2:05 p.m. and secondary students at 2:10 p.m. All after-school activities are canceled.

Bellefonte Area School District has not announced an early dismissal, but has canceled all after-school activities for Wednesday.

The National Weather Service at State College has issued a winter weather advisory for Centre County from 4 p.m. Wednesday to 4 a.m. Thursday. Snow and sleet accumulations up to one inch and ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch are expected, according to the advisory.

“Plan on slippery road conditions,” the NWS wrote. “The hazardous conditions could impact the Wednesday evening commute.”

AccuWeather forecasts a coating to an inch of snow in the afternoon and early evening in the State College area followed by sleet and freezing rain from about 6 p.m. to 2 a.m., accumulating about a tenth of an inch before switching to plain rain.
