Penn State may not have any bowl games or conference championships to play for over the next four seasons, but that doesn’t mean it can’t bring home some hardware.
ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg reported Wednesday afternoon that Penn State is eligible to be named official Leaders division champions. While the Nittany Lions cannot compete in the Big Ten title game for the next three seasons, they can still receive a divisional championship trophy.
Penn State’s league titles in 2005 and 2008 have been vacated by the NCAA and are not recognized by the Big Ten. Markers for the two years remain on the east side of Beaver Stadium and their future remains to be determined at this time.
The Nittany Lions fell in their season opener to Ohio 24-14 and will play at Virginia this Saturday. Kickoff is set for noon on ABC.
