BURLINGTON, Conn. — Alden Henrie, of Snow Shoe, mastered the 2018 rendition of the Punch Brook Slalom in Burlington, Conn., by having the fastest kayak time and near-fastest time in singles canoe.
The 17-year-old had a kayak run time of 120.7 seconds to win the adult men’s class in the kayak division.
In the adult singles canoe class, Brendan Moore, of Portsmouth, N.H., edged Henrie by a trace, 125.4 to 125.6. Henrie won the singles canoe junior class with the fourth best time of the day, 126.4.
This year’s slalom was more difficult than the previous one, held in 2015. The fastest time then was 88.5, and Henrie’s score that year was 91.6 in kayak and 103.7 in singles canoe.
The Punch Brook race was a warm-up for Henrie’s upcoming participation in the 2018 ICF World Junior Championships, to be held in Ivrea, Italy, in July.
