Penn State men’s basketball will head into Monday night’s contest against Butler with at least passing Top 25 recognition as the Nittany Lions picked up one vote in the latest AP Poll released on Monday afternoon. The Nittany Lions are now one of eight Big Ten teams represented in the poll with Indiana, Illinois and Michigan the only teams in the actual Top 25 coming in at No. 12, No. 19 and No. 20 respectively.

Penn State was last ranked in the AP Top 25 in 2020 when the Nittany Lions were ranked as high as No. 9.

The Nittany Lions are set to face Butler on Monday evening averaging just over 90 points per game following a 2-0 start to the season. Penn State is 7th in the nation in three-pointers attempted and one of 11 teams nationwide to shoot the three at 50% or better from beyond the arc. Penn State’s 50% shooting rate from deep is good enough for eighth-best in the nation and the best top of the Big Ten.

Penn State hosts Butler on Monday night with the Bulldogs coming of a win in their only game of the season so far, an 89-53 victory over New Orleans. The Nittany Lions will then host Furman on Thursday in Charleston, South Carolina before two additional games as part of the Charleston Classic. Penn State will face either Old Dominion or Virginia Tech in the following game on Friday with South Carolina, Colorado State, Davidson and the College of Charleston on the other portion of the bracket which would make up Sunday’s slate of games.
