Three-star edge rusher Jameial Lyons announced Friday afternoon that he is committing to Penn State football over Illinois and Pitt, among other programs. Lyons is now the third Class of 2023 recruit to join the Nittany Lions this month, joining quarterback Marcus Stokes and tight end Andrew Rappleyea.

Lyons, a native of Philadelphia, plays his high school ball at Roman Catholic. The 6’4″, 255-pound defender is rated as the seventh-best Pennsylvania prospect and is the No. 27-ranked edge rusher in the 2023 class, according to 247Sports.

He took two unofficial visits to Penn State on April 6 and April 18, respectively, per 247Sports. Following the latter, Lyons took to Twitter to announce that he moved up his commitment day, which was previously set for sometime in August, to April 22.

Lyons is the 10th player and first edge rusher to verbally commit to Penn State’s 2023 class, which 247Sports ranks No. 5 in the country and No. 2 in the Big Ten behind Ohio State. However, the Nittany Lions did land a major edge rusher to its 2022 class earlier this month when former four-star recruit Demeioun Robinson transferred from Maryland.
