Former Penn State Head Coach Joe Paterno Near Death, According to Reports

According to ESPN, Joe Paterno is in “serious” condition as his health complications have gotten worse.  The Citizens’ Voice reports that Joe Paterno’s close family is calling people close to the former Penn State football head coach so they can give their final goodbyes.

Penn State has already dealt with much turmoil this year because of the Jerry Sandusky allegations. Paterno was already forced to leave Penn State after the allegations arose, and since then his health has been declining. 

Paterno has enjoyed a legendary career as the head coach of the Penn State Nittany Lions football program. For 46 years, Paterno has been successful with keeping his teams competitive and producing great NFL talent. Paterno coached five undefeated teams and won three Big Ten championships and two national championships. He was inducted in the College Football Hall of Fame in 2007.

The end of Paterno’s career should not taint his legacy. The Penn State allegations might be the last thing some people remember about him. Paterno did not tell town or state police about the allegations, but only disclosed the information to administrators Tim Curley and Gary Schultz at Penn State.

Paterno should always be remembered for his success, his love of the game and for everything he brought to the college football. He will always be remembered as one of the greatest college coaches in any collegiate sport.
