Penn State wrestling rang in the new year by picking up a big commitment from top-10 Class of 2023 prospect Josh Barr out of Davison, Michigan.

Barr, a two-time Michigan state champion and a Junior National champion at 160 pounds, is projected to compete for the Nittany Lions at either 174 or 184 pounds once he arrives in Happy Valley.

“I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me and helped me get to this point I’m at right now in life,” Barr wrote in an Instagram post. “I’d also like to thank every college that recruited me and spent their time on me it is greatly appreciated. I am honored to be joining the legacy at Penn State and to be given the opportunity to help carry on that legacy. We are…#blessed”

Barr wrestles at Davison High School, the alma mater of current Nittany Lion wrestler Alex Facundo. He joins Braeden Davis as the second Michigan native to commit to Cael Sanderson’s program over the past two weeks.

Barr will need to wait a while before he can join the Nittany Lions on the mat at Rec Hall. For now, he can take pride in watching No. 2 Penn State continue its undefeated season with a road trip to Maryland on Friday.
