Penn State’s two-time national champion at 133 pounds is coming back for more.
Roman Bravo-Young announced on Monday afternoon that he plans on returning to Penn State wrestling for another season. Bravo-Young has competed for four seasons and will graduate this month, but has the extra year of eligibility granted to athletes by the NCAA because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“After talking at length with my coaches and my family, it is time for me to do what is best for myself and my future,” Bravo-Young said in a statement. “How could I pass up an opportunity to compete for another individual crown and bring back another team title to Penn State? Let’s roll this back and get to work.”
Following the 2022 NCAA Wrestling Champions, Bravo-Young didn’t rule out a potential return to Penn State. Before the season began, though, he alluded to it potentially being his last in a blue and white singlet.
“I have nothing left to prove. How about Penn State wrestling, 2022 national team champs? What if I make that three and become another one?” Bravo-Young said during his post-tournament presser in March. “It’s definitely going to be in my mind, but I’m not really too worried about that.”
Bravo-Young is a four-time All-American with two national titles and two Big Ten titles under his belt. He just wrapped up a 22-0 season that included four pins, four tech falls, and four major decisions, joining Penn State’s Nick Lee and Carter Starocci as finalists for the Hodge Trophy.
With Bravo-Young’s help, Penn State captured a national title in March — its 10th in program history and ninth in 11 years. He was among five Nittany Lions who earned individual championships in their respective weight classes.
