The Lady Lions will return to Rec Hall this season.
During Penn State’s football game against Northwestern on Saturday afternoon, the women’s basketball team announced it would play multiple home games in Rec Hall for the 2025-26 season.
An athletic department news release called it “a more permanent return” to the Lady Lions’ former home and stated that specific designations for Rec Hall games will be announced at a later date. They previously played one “Return to Rec” game each of the past two seasons.
The team played in the venue from 1965-1996, as well as one promotional game in 2024. The Lady Lions moved to the Bryce Jordan Center after that, where they’ve been ever since. Capacity at Rec Hall is listed at 6,846 compared to 15,261 at the BJC.
Though it’s smaller, Rec Hall provides a more intimate setting for a team that averaged under 3,000 fans per game last season.
The historic building will now play host to the wrestling, men’s and women’s volleyball, men’s and women’s gymnastics and women’s volleyball teams, as well as the men’s basketball team for one game this winter. Penn State also announced on Saturday that the men’s team will face Wisconsin in Rec Hall at 7 p.m. on Jan. 22.
