The Penn State men’s basketball well get another chance to prep for the upcoming 2023-24 season under new head coach Mike Rhoades and take part in a good cause on Friday night.
The Nittany Lions are set to travel to face Robert Morris for a charity exhibition game benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer and the American Cancer Society. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. at the UPMC Events Center in Moon Township.
Tickets for the exhibition game, which will also air on ESPN+, are $10.
Coaches vs. Cancer, a longtime charitable focus of Penn State men’s basketball and many program across the nation will take on a personal touch this Friday with both teams playing in honor of people close to their respective programs. Penn State will be playing in support of mindfulness coach Alex Peavey and the Peavey Project. A friend of Rhoades and the Penn State coaching staff, Peavey has been battling through a five-year battle with two stage-four cancers. The non-profit Peavey Project seeks to amplify the lessons and legacy of Alex Peavey and positively impact the trajectory of our community by teaching mindfulness and mental performance skills. Rhoades has partnered with the Peavey Project for a number of years to teach his teams the importance of mindfulness as a pillar of holistic student-athlete welfare.
As for Robert Morris, they will be playing in support of Colonials’ Director of Basketball Operations Matthew Sweet who was diagnosed with a rare form of lung cancer in March 2023.
Penn State will open its 2023 season at home against Delaware State on Monday, Nov. 6, the first of four games in the opening 11 days of the Nittany Lions’ new season.
