Penn State Football: Jaguars Draft Parker Washington in Sixth Round

Former Penn State leading receiver Parker Washington was selected by the Jacksonville Jaguars in the sixth round Saturday with the 185th overall pick. He will join fellow Nittany Lion, Brenton Strange in Jacksonville. Strange was selected earlier in the draft during the second round.

Washington is Penn State’s 26th receiver selected in the NFL Draft and the fifth WR selected in the James Franklin era. Overall he is the sixth player from the Nittany Lions to be taken in this year’s draft, joining Joey Porter Jr., Brenton Strange, Juice Scruggs, Ji’Ayir Brown and Sean Clifford. He leaves Penn State having pulled down 146 receptions, 1,920 yards and 12 touchdowns in 31 games over the course of three seasons. His reception total ranks ninth all-time in program history.

Washington will look to bounce-back from a season-ending lower body injury he suffered near the midway point of Penn State’s 2022-23 campaign. Washington’s selection marks the second time in as many years a Penn State receiver has been drafted joining former standout Jahan Dotson who went No. 16 overall to the Washington Commanders. Washington will hope to have a similar start to his career as Dotson laid claim to being one of the best rookie talents in the league over the course of his debut season in the NFL.
