If Penn State ends up hosting a playoff game this upcoming season at Beaver Stadium the dates are now official, following an announcement by the College Football Playoff Committee on Wednesday afternoon.
First round games will be played Friday, Dec. 20 and Saturday, Dec. 21 with a single game played that Friday and three additional games played on Saturday. Kick time for the Friday game is at 8 p.m. Eastern while the games slated for Saturday will be played at Noon, 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. ESPN, ABC and TNT will broadcast the various first round games while ESPN will air the remainder of the playoffs.
The four highest ranked conference champions [The Big Ten title game is slated for Dec. 7] will receive a first round bye while the remaining first round games will be played at the higher seeded team’s home field or venue of choice. Penn State’s ongoing winterization of Beaver Stadium is slated to be complete in time for the Nittany Lions to host a first round game at Beaver Stadium if Penn State were the higher seeded team in such a circumstance.
Quarterfinal games will be played at four traditional New Years Six Bowl locations on a rotating basis on New Years Eve and New Years Day while the semifinals will take place Jan. 9 and Jan. 10 – this year at the Orange Bowl and Cotton Bowl. The national title game will be played Jan. 20 in Atlanta.
