Penn State’s Jordan Stout Named Big Ten Punter of the Year

Penn State’s Jordan Stout has been named the Eddleman-Fields Big Ten Punter of the Year, the conference announced on Tuesday. He’s the first Nittany Lion to take home the award since its inception in 2011.

Stout’s impressive season saw him finish second in the conference with 46.5 yards per punt and with 34 punts pinned inside the 20-yard line. He also led the Big Ten with 25 punts of 50 or more yards.

The Virginia native won Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week four times this season thanks to his prowess both as a punter, kicker, and kickoff specialist. His performances against Wisconsin, Indiana, Michigan and Rutgers helped Stout take home the weekly honor.

He’s just the second specialist in Big Ten history to earn the weekly honor four times, joining Purdue punter Travis Dorsch, who achieved the feat in 2001.

Stout has often served as a key contributor for Penn State this season, whether that be pinning opponents deep in their own territory or booting the ball through the end zone for a touchback.

Most recently, all three of Stout’s punts against Michigan State were downed inside the Spartan 7 yard line.

He is also a finalist for the Ray Guy Award, which is annually given to the nation’s best punter. The winner for the award will be announced on Dec. 8 on ESPN.
