Penn State football has a new top player in its Class of 2024.

Four-star athlete Quinton Martin announced Friday night that he’s committing to Penn State’s Class of 2024 over Michigan and Ohio State, among others.

Martin, who plays defensive back and running back at Belle Vernon High School in Fayette County, is the No. 1-ranked player in Pennsylvania, according to each of the major recruiting services . Additionally, he’s the third-best athlete in the country and the 30th-best overall player in his class, per 247Sports’ composite rankings.

He is the seventh player to join James Franklin’s 2024 class thus far, and he’s the highest-ranked of the bunch. Martin joins Cooper CousinsJon MitchellKenneth WoseleyAnthony SpecaKari Jackson, and Luke Reynolds in a class that is now ranked the ninth-best in the nation.

It’s currently unclear what position Martin will play when he arrives in Happy Valley. However, he did tag @PSULawnBoyz in his commitment tweet, so that could offer a hint toward him being a running back for the Nittany Lions.

“May be best suited to be big-bodied running back,” 247 national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn wrote. “Impacts game in all three phases. Punishing runner and tough to bring down on first contact. Runs with low pad level given size and is agile. North-south runner with little wasted movement. Very good body control allows for subtle last-second cuts. Has high football IQ and understands how to set up blocks. Patient in waiting for running lanes to develop. Hits hole well and shows next gear to get past second level. Has vision and ability to bounce plays outside. Has cut-back ability and is instinctive runner.”
