Coming off its second loss of the season, Penn State dropped two spots in the latest College Football Playoff Top 25 released on Tuesday night.
The Nittany Lions checked in at No. 12 after falling 24-15 on Saturday to undefeated Michigan, which remained at No. 3. Ohio State, which dealt Penn State its other loss on the season, slipped one spot to No. 2 after a 38-3 win over Michigan State. No. 1 Georgia, which moved up a spot, and No. 4 Florida State, which held steady, rounded out the coveted top four.
Future Big Ten members Washington and Oregon are No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. Iowa, which Penn State defeated 31-0 in September, is the only other current conference team to be ranked, coming in at No. 16.
Penn State is in strong position for a New Year’s Six bowl bid with two games remaining in the regular season. The Nittany Lions face Rutgers at noon on Saturday in Beaver Stadium, then travel to Detroit for the regular season finale against Michigan State at 7:30 p.m. on Black Friday at Ford Field.
