After a season-ending injury to cut short a hot start to his year in 2024, former Penn State wide receiver Chris Godwin is returning to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Godwin is signing a three-year, $66 million deal with the Buccaneers, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Monday.

Godwin tallied 576 receiving yards and five touchdowns across seven games last season before sustaining a dislocated ankle in a 41-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Oct. 21. He was on pace to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards for a fourth consecutive season.

An All-Big Ten selection with the Nittany Lions, Godwin was selected by Tampa Bay in the third round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He has spent all eight years of his NFL career with the Buccaneers.

Godwin is the third former Penn State player to sign a significant contract extension this offseason.

Saquon Barkley, an All-American with the Nittany Lions who is the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, became the highest-paid running back in NFL history with a two-year, $41.2 extension with the Philadelphia Eagles. Mike Gesicki, one of the top tight ends in Penn State program history, returned to the Cincinnati Bengals on a three-year, $25.5 million deal.

Godwin has hauled in 7,266 across his career, the 17th most among active NFL players. He was named an All-Pro selection in 2019 and won a Super Bowl with Tampa Bay in 2021.
