Penn State football picked up another win over its former head coach on the recruiting trail.
The Nittany Lions on Monday landed a commitment from three-star, class of 2027 athlete Caleb Cooper, who projects as a safety at the college level. He chose Penn State over Virginia Tech and James Franklin, as well as Wisconsin, the other finalist.
Cooper is ranked as the No. 30 North Carolina native, No. 66 athlete and No. 844 overall prospect in the class, per the 247Sports composite rankings.
The product of Providence Day School in Charlotte is listed at 6-foot and 207 pounds, giving him a strong frame for the position. For reference, that weighs more than five safeties currently on Penn State’s roster.
Cooper becomes the second safety in the group, joining fellow three-star Jonathan Galette out of New Jersey. With the addition, the Nittany Lions are up to 22 total commitments in the class, which ranks No. 8 nationally and best in the Big Ten per 247Sports. In the composite rankings, they sit at No. 14 nationally and No. 6 in the conference.
