Penn State men’s basketball continues to get a better look at its still long-away 2024 season’s out-of-conference schedule.
The field for the 2024 Sunshine Slam, which will take place Nov. 25-26 at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach and include Penn State, was officially announced earlier this week. The Nittany Lions’ involvement in the early season event was previously reported but not yet official.
Additionally, Penn State recently announced that it will face Virginia Tech in the 2024 Hall of Fame Series Baltimore at CFG Bank Arena on Friday, Nov. 15. Baltimore is the home of Penn State guard and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year Ace Baldwin Jr. The standout guard recently announced his intentions to return to Penn State for one final season.
Back in Daytona Beach, Penn State will face two teams from a grouping of Clemson, San Francisco and Fordham as participants in the Beach bracket, while the Ocean bracket will consist of Radford, Chicago State, Drexel and Purdue Fort Wayne. The Sunshine Slam will consist of a pair of semifinal round games in each bracket on Nov. 25 and a championship and consolation game in each bracket on Nov. 26. Champions will be crowned for both the Beach and Ocean brackets. Matchups and schedules for the 2024 Sunshine Slam will be announced at a later date.
Those two clashes are the only officially announced aspects of Penn State’s nonconference slate. Reputable reporting in the college basketball space has also indicated that the Nittany Lions will host Buffalo on Dec. 1, as well as Purdue Fort Wayne for the early on-campus portion of the Sunshine Slam.
According to a source, the game against Purdue Fort Wayne could potentially change but is unlikely to do so.
