Another rising fifth-year senior has opted to transfer away from the program as wide receiver Jake Kiley will play his final season of eligibility elsewhere.
Kiley joins a staggering list of rising redshirt seniors to transfer away from the program due to playing time concerns — the exception of course being linebacker Troy Reeder, who transferred back home to the University of Delaware.
A standout all-around football player at New Hampton Prep in New Hampshire, Kiley committed to Penn State as a two-star prospect with only two scholarship offers — one from the Lions, and the other from the University of New Hampshire.
Kiley tweeted a heartfelt note detailing his decision to leave the program from his Twitter account on Thursday afternoon, thanking each head coach and major assistant who guided him during his tenure in Happy Valley — including Joe Paterno, the coach who recruited Kiley.

Kiley joins fellow redshirt senior wide receiver Geno Lewis in departing from the program. Like Lewis, Kiley’s decision was primarily because of depth at the position. With players like Chris Godwin, DaeSean Hamilton, Saeed Blacknall established as contributors — plus redshirt freshmen Juwan Johnson and Irvin Charles primed to make a run at early playing time — Kiley would’ve spend his final season mostly relegated to the bench.
Thank you for your contributions to the program, Jake. We wish you well in your future endeavors.
We’ll have more information regarding Kiley’s next school as we receive it.
