It’s one of those few quiet(er) State College weekends — a canning weekend. But Happy Valley is still buzzing with exciting activities all weekend long.
Friday
- Music, dancing, art and chocolate. Does this sound like a perfect evening to you? Come to ‘For the Love of Art and Chocolate’ at 6:30 p.m. at the Penn Stater Conference Center Hotel. You’ll receive an assortment of chocolate delicacies, the opportunity to view and bid on a variety of art works inspired by nature, and the chance to win some fabulous door prizes. There will also be live jazz band Jazza-Ma-Phone. All proceeds benefit ClearWater Conservancy. - Penn State wrestling will play host at its first home dual in nearly three months tonight. No. 13 PSU, will take on No. 19 at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall. The Nittany Lions are now 8-3-1. Single event tickets cost $8 for adults and $6 for children. It’s the StateCollege.com Game of the Week.
For all the music lovers, there are two great concerts tonight:
Country fans: grab your cowboy boots and hats and get ready for Rascal Flatts, [named the 2009 AMA Winner for Favorite Country Music Band, Group or Duo] & Darius Rucker. They are performing at 8 p.m. at the Bryce Jordan Center. Tickets are $59 for general admission and $39 for students. Soul singer Sharon Jones and The Dap- Kings are performing at 8 p.m. at The State Theatre. Jones says you have to feel the music in your bones, your heart, in everything and everywhere! From the rumble and grumble of thick funk pulling you to the dance floor to the soaring soul guaranteed to make you sigh, one thing is for sure: Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are legitimate heavy-hitters. Saturday
- There are only two weekends left of The Bill Welch Memorial Cartoon Series! Watch the timeless classics and share your favorite cartoons with your own children and families. Come to the State Theatre at 10 a.m. for your free cartoon viewing.
- Like Italian food? Can’t get enough spaghetti? For great food, fellowship, music and more, come to the annual ‘All-You-Can-Eat’ Spaghetti Dinner to benefit The Penns Valley HOPE Fund at 4 p.m. in the Centre Hall Elementary School. There will be live entertainment and supervised children’s activities in the gym. All of the money raised benefits families in the Penns Valley School District. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children. Take-out meals are also available.
- The Joepacalypse is coming! If you like satire, live performances and food, come to Forbidden Valley IX: Joepa-calypto at 7 p.m. at the SOZO Institute of the Arts. Don’t miss this annual revue, now in its ninth year! Featuring the humor of Pam Monk, as performed by the Forbidden Valley Players: Chris Gamble, Susan Riddiford Shedd, Pam Fuller, Russell Bloom, Stacy Glen Tibbetts, and Patti Begg. Enjoy classical music? Come to the Eisenhower Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. and treat your ears to Musical Milestones: Works by Dvorak and Bartok. https://www.nvs.org/- The Penn State Dance Program is presenting a winter extravaganza! There will be three shows at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, in the Pavilion Theatre. No tickets are required for the show, but the dance program will be collecting donations for THON.

- PSU women’s tennis will take on Bucknell at 11 a.m. at the Sarni Tennis Center.
The PSU Icers will be playing West Chester at 3:30 p.m. at the Greenberg Ice Pavillion.- Maybe you prefer tumbling, splits and back flips? PSU Women’s Gymnastics will host Cornell, Iowa and Yale in a quad meet at 7 p.m. at Rec Hall.
- Both men and women’s Penn State fencing is ranked No. 1. The fencers will host a major dual meet all day today in the White Building. UNC, John Hopkins, Temple, Drew, Haverford and No. 6 Penn will all be competing at the dual.

- It’s never to late to try something new. Learn to ski or snowboard at Tussey Mountain. Get a beginner lift ticket, beginner lesson, and all-day rental equipment for $35! Lessons will begin at 11 a.m., 1, 3 and 6 p.m. No reservations are required; check in at the ticket office at least 30 minutes before the lesson starts and get out on the slope!
- Enjoy performing arts? Come to Eisenhower Auditorium at 2 p.m. for Theatreworks USA’s musical revue, ‘If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Other Story Books.’ Based on popular children’s literature, the show features seven stories about issues, themes and ideas relevant to youngsters. Adult tickets are $18, children tickets are $13, and PSU student tickets are $8.
Support The Lady Lions as they take on Illinois at the Fourth Annual WBCA Pink Zone at Penn State at 1 p.m. in the Bryce Jordan Center. Penn State will donate $2 from every single-game ticket sold to the Pink Zone to the fundraising cause. This year’s fundraising efforts will benefit the Mount Nittany Medical Center, Penn State Hershey Cancer Institute, Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund. The first 2,000 fans will receive pink Lady Lion Basketball water bottle. There will be a silent auction on the concourse with several items available for bid, including Penn State sports memorabilia, professional sports memorabilia and other items.
