A winter storm watch will be in effect Saturday when the Penn State football team takes the field.
The National Weather Service has put the watch in effect Saturday from the morning through 10 p.m. It reaches across much of central Pennsylvania — the whole way east to the Poconos.
From late Friday night through Saturday evening, six or more inches of snow are possible, according to an advisory posted on AccuWeather.com.
‘The heavy, wet snow will create slippery travel conditions and weigh down trees,’ it reads. ‘Power outages possible.’
Temperatures are forecast to be in the lower 30s. In addition, black ice is possible Friday morning in the State College area, the National Weather Service advised.
As for Saturday, it’s expected to snow between 3 and 4 p.m., according to AccuWeather.com. Penn State’s game against Illinois is scheduled to kick off at 3:30 p.m. at Beaver Stadium.
There may be a break in the snowfall between 4 and 5 p.m., but it’s projected to pick up again between 5 and 6 p.m., the AccuWeather.com forecast shows.
Early this month, the State College area saw its first snowfall of the season.
