The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 10 p.m. Tuesday evening for most of Pennsylvania and all of Centre County.

According to the bulletin, scattered severe thunderstorms with damaging winds of 60 miles per hour or greater with large hail exceeding 1 inch in diameter are possible this afternoon and evening. Tornadoes are also possible.

The threat of severe weather continue Wednesday as well, as scattered severe thunderstorms are possible throughout the day and into Thursday.

A tornado watch signifies when weather conditions could become favorable for producing a tornado. Tuesday’s watch also extends into parts of Ohio, New Jersey, and West Virginia.

The watch comes just a day following a series of storms that swept through several states including Ohio and Indiana, producing several tornados and damaging storms.

According to a report by the Associated Press, two tornados were officially reported this past weekend in Pennsylvania while several others have been recorded in the past month. Pennsylvania is generally not an active site for large and destructive tornados with only a single F5 tornado touching down in the state since 1950.
