The Interfraternity Council/Panhellenic Dance Marathon raised $12,374,034.46 in 2013, overalls announced around 4 p.m. Sunday inside a packed Bryce Jordan Center.
This year’s total broke a new record, beating the 2012 total of $10.69 million by nearly $2 million.
Over 41 years, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world has raised more than $100 million for the Four Diamonds Fund.
The fund supports pediatric cancer research and has been the benefactor of THON’s philanthropy since 1977.
A record 710 dancers stood for 46 hours between Friday and Sunday, never once sitting, sleeping or stopping in its last weekend to raise money for THON 2013 after a year-long effort by thousands of Penn State students.
Before the total was revealed, funds raised by independent dancers, Greek organizations, special interest organizations and Commonwealth Campuses were revealed.
Special Interest organization Atlas THON raised more than $500,000 in 2013, putting it over the $2 million mark since it began fundraising.
Independent dancers raised more than $1 million.
In July, THON overalls announced that 96 percent of the $10.69 million raised in 2012 went directly to the Four Diamonds Fund.
