It’s a busy final weekend in August to get out and enjoy around the area. The final days of Grange Fair are upon us, with the last two days packed from morning to night with activities, events and entertainment.

FRIDAY
Maker Week Activities
Maker Week 2016 continues Friday and Saturday at Schlow Library, the Make Space in Fraser Street Parking Garage and on South Allen Street. Learn about and try your hand at 3-D printing, take part in STEM activities, and much more. Go to makerweek.schlowlibrary.org for a full schedule of events.
Penn State Teams in Action
Three Penn State teams are in action at home Friday night. The No. 18 Nittany Lion field hockey team opens the 2016 season against No. 20 Old Dominion at 6 p.m. at the Field Hockey Complex. No. 5 women’s soccer takes on No. 14 BYU at 7 p.m. at Jeffrey Field. And the No. 9 women’s volleyball team starts the 2016 campaign hosting West Virginia in the Penn State Classic at 7 p.m. in Rec Hall.
The Jurassic Park Collection
The State Theatre hosts a film event of pre-historic proportions this weekend with all four of the Jurassic Park movies playing across two nights. It begins at 7 p.m. with the original 1993 blockbuster. Check statetheatre,org for times and ticket info.
Concert on the Village Green
Free Friday concerts on the Lemont Village Green finishes up for the summer at 7:30 p.m. with acoustic rock duo Hops & Vines.
Collin Raye at Grange Fair
Country music favorite Collin Raye brings rich vocals and blazing guitar to the Grandstand stage at 8 p.m. to cap a full day of events at Grange Fair.
Movie on the Mountain
Tussey Mountain’s free summer Movies on the Mountain continues with the 1980s classic ‘Dirty Dancing.’ Gates open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at dusk. Popcorn and candy will be available, as well as hot dogs, and other great food you won’t find at regular movie theaters. Soda, beer, and other beverages also are offered. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and watch a the movie under the stars.
SATURDAY
Herb and Garlic Festival
The historic Boal Mansion in Boalsburg hosts a new fundraiser for the creation of a large public garden. It’s also a celebration of local gardening and a chance to learn while enjoying delicious treats, including garlic milkshakes! The festival is 9 a.m.-4 p.m. with free admission.
CRPR 50 Fest
Celebrate 50 years of Centre Region Parks and Rec from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in Tom Tudek Memorial Park. The day will include games, prizes, an inflatable obstacle course and bounce house and activity stations with a number of local groups. And come back at 8:45 p.m. to enjoy a showing of ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’ in the park.
Women’s Volleyball Doubleheader
The ninth-ranked Penn State women’s volleyball team continues the season-opening Penn State Classic with a pair of Saturday matches. The Nittany Lions host Georgia Southern at 10 a.m., then they’re back in Rec Hall at 7 p.m. to take on No. 19 North Carolina.
Roller Derby
Check out Happy Valley’s only flat track derby league in action as State College Area Roller Derby’s Plan B faces the First Settlement Derby Dames at 5 p.m. at Penn Skates.
Raelynn at Grange Fair
It’s the final day of Grange Fair, and after another full day of events and activities, rising country music star Raelynn takes the Grandstand stage to close out the 142nd edition of the encampment and fair.
SUNDAY
Boogersburg One-Room School Open House
Schoolmarms, slates, & sack races — celebrate going back to school 19th century style with this special open house at the historic Boogersburg One Room School, 1021 Fox Hill Road, from 1-4 p.m. Centre County Historical Society hosts this free event. (Details)
Penn State Field Hockey vs. Virginia
The No. 18 Nittany Lion field hockey team continues its season-opening homestand with a tough test at noon, taking on No. 5 Virginia at the Field Hockey Complex.
South Hills Picnic Concert
The weekly summer outdoor music series at South Hills School of Business North Lawn wraps up for the season with Zeropoint Big Band. Bring your picnic starting at 5, and music starts at 6.
