State High QB Tommy Friberg to Walk-on at Michigan

State College quarterback Tommy Friberg is headed to the University of Michigan to continue his athletic and academic career.

Friberg announced Sunday on Twitter that he had received a preferred walk-on offer from and committed to the Wolverines.

The Little Lion senior also had a preferred walk-on offer from Penn State and a scholarship offer from Columbia.

Friberg was a Class 6A All-State selection for 2018 after leading the Little Lions to the PIAA quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.

In 2018, Friberg threw for 2,293 yards, on 137 of 202 passing with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 320 yards and four touchdowns.

Over his junior and senior seasons as State High’s starting quarterback, Friberg led the Little Lions to a 22-5 record and set the school’s career passing mark with 4,324 yards, surpassing the record previously held by Chris Ganter, who went on to play for Penn State.

Fellow Little Lion and four-star defensive back Keaton Ellis signed with Penn State in December. Jaden Seider, Friberg’s backup at quarterback last season and the son of Penn State running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider, committed to the Nittany Lions as a preferred walk-on.

State College receiver Cohen Russell, meanwhile, will sign with Slippery Rock on National Signing Day on Wednesday. He’ll join former Little Lion receiver Brandon Clark, who announced in January plans to transfer to the Rock from Penn State, where he was a preferred walk-on for his freshman season in 2018.
