If you’re like a lot of people in the State College area, the Blue-White weekend means lots of out-of-town guests will be coming to visit. If you don’t have a big driveway that sometimes leads to some big parking headaches.
Not to worry. State College Police will allow all-night parking on area streets to accommodate the hordes of vehicles that will be piling into town.
You can safely ignore those signs that say, “No Parking 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m,” on Friday, April 19 through Sunday, April 21. The parking restrictions will not be enforced during that time. Be warned, the parking rules will be enforced again, beginning at 2:00 a.m. Monday.
In addition, the one hour and two hour parking restrictions will be lifted at noon on Friday. And, as long as you don’t mind, guests will be allowed to park on your lawn over the weekend.
Keep in mind that while parking rules will be relaxed, there are still plenty of places where you cannot park. State College police say they’ll be watching for violations of the Pennsylvania Vehicle Code and the laws will be strictly enforced.
There is:
No parking on sidewalks
No parking within an intersection
No parking on a crosswalk
No parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk at an intersection
No parking within 30 feet of a stop sign
No parking over 12 inches from the curb
No parking against traffic
No parking in front of a driveway
No parking in areas posted, “No parking anytime.”
If you break any of those rules your car may be ticketed or even towed. Be aware that spaces equipped with parking meters will operate normally. That means you have to pay to use a metered space from 8:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. You’ll also have to feed the meters in borough parking lots from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 p.m.
