State College Man Found Guilty of 2011 Black Friday Rape

A 21-year-old State College man has been convicted for raping an unconscious woman.

A Centre County jury found Angel Alvarado guilty Friday. Alvarado is now imprisoned at the Centre County Correctional Facility awaiting sentencing.

The incident dates back to November 2011. The victim, a woman from Williamsport, was staying at a friend’s home in State College after going shopping on Black Friday.

Alvarado knew the victim since high-school and admitted knowing she was a heavy sleeper. During the night, the victim awoke on the couch to find her pants pulled down, and Alvarado sitting on the end of the couch not wearing a shirt. The woman asked Alvarado “What did you do?” to which he replied, “I lost control” and “I’m sorry.”

The victim was examined at the Mount Nittany Medical Center. Tests found Alvarado’s DNA on the woman.

Police had to warn Alvarado to stop making phone calls to the victim following the rape while she was at the hospital. During the trial, Alvarado also admitted lying under oath during an earlier hearing because “he was nervous.”

“The jury’s verdict was the first step in restoring the power and control this Defendant took from the victim,” said Centre County District Attorney Stacy Parks Miller in a news release. “This allows her to start over and heal from this, and I thank them for their important service to the commonwealth.”
