University Park, Pa. — The mood on the Penn State campus is filled with anger and sadness.

The sanctions imposed by the NCAA come just one day after the Joe Paterno statue was removed from Beaver Stadium, but there was a last minute effort to save it.

6 News got its hands on court documents filed in Centre County.

A prominent State College businessman filed an injunction last Friday, saying he was one of the donors of the statue and was urging a judge to block its removal.

A court hearing was scheduled on the issue, but not it appears that action was all done too late.

The injunction was filed by Edward Lauth III.

He once owned a bottled water company that Joe Paterno did commercial endorsements for.

Lauth filed suit against Penn State and its Board of Trustees demanding they cease and desist with the removal of the statue.

Lauth felt that anyone who donated money to the shrine had a say in its future.

The suit was filed just before 5 PM Friday and if it was not hand delivered to University leader it is unlikely they ever saw it.
