The sun umbrellas are up at The Creamery and the outdoor tables are set at Café 210. Baby, it’s finally spring in State College.

The temperature in State College is hovering around 50 degrees today: the first sign of this thing called “Spring” that was promised weeks ago by Punxsutawney Phil. With predictions like that, Phil, you deserve the lawsuit. In fact, somebody actually did sue the famous rodent.

Though it’s not quite time to break out the tanning lotion and get your bronze on, Penn State students and State College residents alike are ditching their regular schedules to have some fun in the sun.

“I’m skipping the only class I have today to come out here and throw the football,” said Bill Strodel, a student with clear priorities. “I don’t want to say it’s spring too soon. Last year it was nice and then went bad again.”

The temperature is projected to stay above 50 degrees for the most part next week, but townie Cam Seager isn’t taking any chances. “The weatherman will say it’s going to be nice all week but tomorrow we’ll probably get a foot of snow the way this year’s been going. I have a lot of work to do but I’m making sure to get outside now while I don’t need a parka,” said Seager while walking his dog downtown.

With what appears to be a sunny weekend coming up, how will you be taking advantage of the warm weather? Let us know in the comments.
