Sandusky sex crime fallout continues

The fallout continues across the Penn State University Park campus, the state and even the country after the news broke Friday afternoon that a well-known coach was charged with child sex abuse. 

Former Penn State assistant coach Jerry Sandusky faces 40 counts of sex abuse that date back to the ’90s.

Monday, the investigation took a new turn with the arraignment in Harrisburg of two top Penn State administrators, who are accused of knowing about the apparent abuse, but not seeking out criminal charges.

According to the state attorney general’s office that Tim Curley and Gary Schultz will surrender to authorities in Harrisburg at approximately 2 p.m.

A grand jury, which issued the indictment against Sandusky, found that Curley, who was the athletics driver, and Shultz, the interim vice president of business and finance, were told by a grad assistant that Sandusky was seen performing sex acts with a boy in a shower, that the pair did not tell proper authorities and they had lied under oath during their grand jury testimony in January.

Meanwhile, Sandusky is free on $100,000 unsecured bail. There has been mounting criticism of Penn State president Graham Spanier’s comments and the decision to pay for Curley and Shultz’s legal costs. At the same time, support and criticism of head coach Joe Paterno has been voice, many questioning just how much the football coaching legend knew and if he had done enough.

Early Monday morning, a Penn State spokesperson confirmed that Curley requested administrative leave. Shultz, who had been retired prior to taking the interim position, returned to his retirement. Both men defended their innocence.
